Instructions for Using the GenScn Map Extension for ArcView The GenScn Map Extension for ArcView provides a menu option for exporting a View to a GenScn Map File. This extension is designed to be used by someone familiar with ArcView wishing to set up GenScn. It allows a user to set up GenScn without manually building the Map File in a text editor. The user must first set up the View as desired, and then the user can use this extension to save that View to a GenScn Map File. This extension is provided in a file called 'GenScnMap.avx'. This file must be copied into the ArcView extension folder on the user's pc, usually named something like '\esri\av_gis30\arcview\ext32'. The extension is accessed from within ArcView through the 'File-Extensions' menu option. Select the GenScn Map option from this list, and click Ok. A menu item called 'Export to GenScn Map' will be added to the 'View' menu. After setting up a map in a view as desired, select the 'View-Export to GenScn Map' menu option. A file dialog will appear for specifying the file name to which to save the new GenScn Map file. Within GenScn, this map file may be specified through the 'File-New' or 'File-Edit' menu options. This Extension has the following limitations: Only shape files are included in the map file. Text labels are not saved with the map file. Rendered shape files will not appear as rendered in the map file. Also note that once in GenScn the user must specify the GenScn 'Key Field' in order to connect the features of a shape file with the location identifiers in the timeseries data files.
